COMMUNITY OUTREACH
|
|
| |
 |
DANPER actively fosters a healthy and harmonious relationship with the community
through concrete support activities in a range of aspects: cultural, educational,
sports and institutional activities.
A very laudable activity is its direct participation in the development of infrastructure
improvement projects in the area of Huancaquito Alto - La Pampa, located near one
of its farms in Virú, Department of La Libertad.
Danper is carrying out, together with the local authorities, various duly planned
activities with the clear objective of improving the living standards of the rural
population. Among these activities are the cleanup of the village, planting of green
areas, supply of water and training of young people to become field assistants in
the asparagus crops.

Danper Trujillo supervises the continuity of these activities together with the
community as a clear example of how the Social Responsibility policies the company
applies both in its plants and farms are enhanced by implementing them also in the
surrounding communities in order to improve the overall living standards of its
workers and their families. |
| |
Danper is vigilant of the practices taught to the people of
Huancaquito Alto, so
that they become the managers of their own ongoing development. It continues cooperating
with this community, as is the case of providing them with traffic signals to watch
over the safety of the people. |

DANPER also contributes with Cross-cultural Learning by rewarding, together with
AFS, the effort of teenagers with scholarships. Thus, Agustín Valderrama (Headboy
at Jose Olaya school in Huancaquito Alto) and Biby Córdova (daughter of a Danper
worker) were rewarded for their effort by receiving two scholarships sponsored by
AFS in our country.
Agustín went to Switzerland and Biby to Belgium. Their stay in those countries was
the best experience in their lives, they stated. Both teenagers came back with many
dreams and goals to achieve, which were inspired by the experience lived abroad. |

DANPER’s commitment towards the surrounding communities has expanded to Huancaquito
Bajo village, by signing in 2007 an agreement with the Regional Health Authorities
and the community of Huancaquito Bajo to set up a health center in this community
that would operate as an expansion of the health center set up in Huancaquito Alto.
Danper assumed the commitment of hiring and assigning qualified staff to provide
nursing, maternity and pediatric services, as well as free ultra-sound scanning
for the entire population of Huancaquito Bajo and its surroundings
(Compositan, Las Gaviotas, Cerritos, etc.), in order to complement the medical services provided
by the Ministry of Health in the area of primary care. |
| |
|
|
| |
As a result of the joint work by Danper and the alliances with the Regional Health
Authorities underpinning the commitment assumed on behalf of the community, in May
2011 the Health Center of Huancaquito Bajo was inaugurated and recognized. The following
permanent staff was assigned with the corresponding budget: physicist, nurse, obstetrician,
interns and nursing auxiliary. |

Another prominent project DANPER has carried out in the Huancaquito Bajo community,
thanks to the strategic Alliance with Utah Estate University (USA), using as fundamental basis the training of the beneficiaries, is the implementation of the Mi Barrio
Progresa Bakery. This is a small but very active business that produces bread and
bread-making products. It is owned by four ladies who live in the village and indirectly
benefits the entire population who didn´t have a bakery in their community. |

This project has celebrated its second year of operation and its owners have managed
to pay back 77% of the loan received to set up the business, which is a clear evidence
of their commitment and the sustainability of the project. |
|
Another one of the remarkable projects developed with the communities is the Mini-market
in the Alto Moche District, near one of our Muchik farms in the Salaverry District,
Department of La Libertad. This project has also been implemented in alliance with
Utah State University, whereby after a training process, the Santos Palomino family
was financed to enlarge the small grocery store they had. |

Project: “Mini-market”
This project was implemented a year ago and has managed to pay back 36% of the loan
received. The Santos Palomino Cruz family is the direct beneficiary, but the community
of Alto Salaverry is the indirect beneficiary of the photocopying service and the
sale of school supplies for the local students. |
